Bel Ombre Nature Reserve: thrill meets wilderness
Explore Mauritius’ untamed south: waterfalls, picnic, buggy, quad bike and trails at Bel Ombre Nature Reserve for families withs kids, couples etc.
Set within the Domaine de Bel Ombre, in the preserved south of Mauritius, Bel Ombre Nature Reserve covers 1,300 hectares of natural landscapes within a 2,500 hectare estate. It is located in the Macchabée Bel Ombre region, part of which has been recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977 under the Man and the Biosphere conservation programme.
Between forests, rivers, waterfalls and century old trees, the reserve reveals a living environment where fauna and flora exist in balance. It also carries the history of Bel Ombre, once a 19th century sugar estate, whose chimney remains a visible reminder of the past.
The experiences offered invite visitors to enjoy nature differently, through quad biking, buggy rides, 4x4 safaris, trekking or Picnic Pods. Designed for nature lovers, they offer a peaceful moment away from the everyday, shaped by immersion, observation and the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
Accompanied by passionate guides, each outing becomes an encounter with the land. The guides share the site’s history, the specific features of its ecosystem and the details that are not always noticed at first glance. An authentic experience to better feel the nature of Mauritius.
